Can you hardly believe it? The holiday season is in full swing, with Christmas quickly approaching! Along with candy canes, tinsel, yummy gingerbread lattes, wish lists and dreamy eyed little ones, you know what else Christmas has rolled up in all of its magical wonderfulness?
Oh yea its P-A-R-T-Y Time and you have to look beautiful and fresh!!!
Your go-to little black dress is having a hard time competing with all of the sparkly new frocks in store windows. The highest of heels are purchased. Hair salons and make-up counters are beautifying in steady streams.
You, my dear, are going to turn heads.
Now, let’s make it last...
YOUR HOLIDAY PURSE/CLUTCH/DATE’S POCKET ESSENTIALS:
1. Oil Blotting Sheets
Don’t get me wrong, that little mirror on your powder compact can come in handy for quick spinach-in-the-teeth peeks between courses. But resist the urge to swipe powder over every shiny spot that surfaces as the night goes on. You’ll only end up looking too matte and overdone. Instead, bring along some oil blotting sheets for quick oil slick clean up. Blotting any shiny areas won’t mess up or remove the make-up you tediously applied – they’ll simply remove shine and eliminate the urge to powder and re-powder again. Don’t go spending a lot of money on these either! I use the Clean & Clear brand, and they work just fine.
2. Blush
On days that I’m too lazy to do anything but throw my hair in a bun, dust on some powder and maybe, MAYBE a coat of mascara, I still do not leave the house without wearing blush. It’s an instant face brightener. As the night wears on, use blush to add color and contour to your face. I hope and pray that when you’re doing your make-up routine at home, you’re using a quality blush brush for application (please, please invest in good brushes!). But as great as a professional quality brush is at applying streak free rouge, it’s equally as cumbersome to carry around. For on-the-go touch ups, bring an all-in-one compact like the the one below from L’Oreal. It comes with a tiny brush AND a mirror. I carry Innocent Flush with me at all times!
3. Black Eye Liner
There is nothing that can glam up eyes like coal black liner applied to the waterline! Keep this on hand and reapply as needed. Quality really does matter here – splurge on the good stuff for intense color and staying power. Try Smolder by MAC.
4. Lipstick and/or Gloss
If you’re wearing a bright or dark colored lipstick, then obviously carry the tube with you! But if not, at least bring a pretty light pink or nude lipgloss along. If your lipstick is matte and tends to dry out over time, you’ll be super grateful for the added moisture you’ll get from a swipe of gloss.
My favorite, favorite, FAVORITE lip-gloss EVER (did I mention that I love it?) is Chanel Glossimer in Giggle. It may not look it in the tube, but I swear this looks good on just about everyone.
*Note: The color below is not Giggle – I couldn’t find a large enough pic to pull for ya.
Loaded Q-Tips
This one is optional. Although I would prefer (but only because it would sound bossy to say demand) that you do not apply your shadow with Q-Tips, they can come in extremely handy if a) you’re wearing a very dark shadow and want to ensure intense color for the duration of your festivities or b) even with a primer, your shadow still tends to crease.
Roll the ends of a Q-Tip(s) in your shadow and stick them in a snack size zip lock bag (or any other small container you may have on hand). When needed, pull out your disposable applicators and carefully fix any spots that need touching up.
Happy Holiday Partying with these holiday party ideas!
