To Bronze Or Not To Bronze - How to use bronzer, should i use bronzer or blush?

A good friend recently shared with me her dilemma over whether (and when) to wear a bronzer. So if you, too, stare at your beloved blush and bronzer debating which to be loyal to on any given day, fret no longer! Blush and bronzer both have their own purposes, but can most definitely be used together as well.

Bronzer can also be applied alone to the cheek bones

As we all know, blush comes in a wide variety of hues. Sometimes a rosy pink is most appropriate, other times a peachy glow is desired. Bronzer also comes in different shades, and with varying levels of shimmer. A bronzer that is just a shade or two darker than your natural skin color can be applied lightly to the entire face with a big, fluffy brush for an overall glow (NOTE: this ONLY applies to bronzer with very, very little shimmer! Otherwise, you’ll look like a shiny mess. Sorry, but you just will. So don’t do it!). In moderation,  a matte bronzer can also be applied alone to the cheek bones for added contour and color.

When it comes to make-up, it is possible to have too much of a good thing (Fyi: you will hear this from me repeatedly)! The bronzer + blush combo works wonders when using a lighter shade of blush, but not when using deep, rich colors. I’m a big fan of using a peachy or pink blush on the apples of the cheeks and along the cheek bones, and then adding a sweep of bronzer with just a hint of shimmer (shimmer ladies, NOT glitter…unless you’re under the age of 14 – you girls can go ahead and glitter yourselves crazy.

You only have a few good years to do so enjoy.) to the top of the cheek bones to highlight and add a gorgeous glow. The trick to not getting too sparkly or applying too much is to use a smaller brush (such as M.A.C. blush brush #116) and tap, tap, tap away to remove excess product. Start inward and sweep outwards to avoid too much shimmer close to your nose, where you may tend to get shiny anyways.

Here’s a hint: If you’re ever in doubt about the amount of glow or shimmer you have going on, it’s probably too much!
